Guide of Prague

  • Content of the walk:

The Jewish Museum’s exhibition is housed in several synagogues within the Jewish Quarter, offering a deep insight into the history of Jews in Bohemia and Moravia. A highlight of the museum is a unique 3D film that allows you to virtually fly through the former Prague ghetto, exploring its narrow, dead-end streets and various outbuildings.

The museum also showcases an impressive collection of synagogue artifacts, including hand-embroidered curtains, Shabbat candles, Torah pointers, menorahs, and Torah scrolls—each a testament to the fine craftsmanship of Jewish goldsmiths. In addition, the exhibition offers insights into the main Jewish traditions and holidays, illustrating their significance in daily life.

While walking through the Old Jewish Cemetery, you will encounter approximately 12,000 gravestones, with the tomb of Rabbi Löw (MAHARAL) being one of the most visited. The Pinkas Synagogue has been transformed into a Holocaust memorial, dedicated to the 80,000 Czech and Moravian Jews who perished in Nazi concentration camps. The walls are inscribed with their names, and the poignant collection of drawings and paintings by children from the Terezín ghetto provides a heartbreaking glimpse into their lives before they were deported to Auschwitz.

In the Spanish Synagogue, you can explore the stories of notable Jewish businessmen, artists, writers, and families through interactive screens, shedding light on the contributions and legacies of the Jewish community in Prague.
